Another day navigating the traffic of Kathmandu as we are driven to Patan, one of three medieval principalities of Kathmandu Valley. We visit another Durbar Square, which resembles Ankor Wat in Cambodia with its endless temples and palaces. We continue on to the traditional village of Bungamati. As we wind our way through the streets, I am reminded of some of the medieval villages we have visited in many other countries that are staged to give tourists an idea of how people lived and worked. But this was real. Every doorway had someone weaving, carving wood, drying corn, grinding mustard seeds, and many other tasks. Some of them had their wares for sale in front of their shops. Other than the fact that they know how to sell to tourists, this place seems to be untouched by modern civilization.
